How Your Pineal Gland Regulates Hormones, Sleep, Energy, and Skin Health

How your pineal gland regulates hormones, sleep, energy, and skin health

The Pineal Gland and Hormones

The pineal gland is a tiny but very important pinecone shaped organ in the brain that is a part of the neuro-endocrine system and vital for regulating hormones and our circadian rhythm.

The hormones melatonin, serotonin, and dimethytryptamine (DMT) are produced by the pineal gland.

The pineal gland is stimulated by light. Our eyes receive the light which then travels through nerves directly to our brain where it triggers activity in our pineal gland.

Regular sunlight exposure from dawn to dusk is important for regulating our circadian rhythms and informing our pineal gland of the appropriate times to produce melatonin (which is released at night).

The pineal gland is considered the orchestrator of hormonal production in the body and important for optimal fertility, healthy sleep, and alertness during the day.

The Pineal Gland and Light

By getting regular sunlight during the day, our pineal gland than produces melatonin at night, which is an essential hormone for triggering other hormones throughout the body.

Light stimulates the pineal gland to produce serotonin, a natural mood booster that increases the feelings of happiness and well-being.

The pineal gland also creates the peptide epithalamin that impacts the health of the body in many ways, including the skin, the largest organ in the body. Epithalamin supports the youthfulness of the skin and body, enhances longevity, and lengthens telomere length, reversing the effects of aging on the endocrine system.

Light therapy can support the health of the pineal gland.

Supporting Pineal Gland Functioning

Flouride can cause calcification of the pineal gland. A calcified pineal gland can cause sleep issues, cognitive challenges, and decrease perception and judgement.

Iodine is a great supplement to detox heavy metals and decalcify the pineal gland. Iodine is in very high quantities in seaweed. Eating seaweed everyday as a part of the diet is wonderful for pineal health, including nori, dulse, and other edible seaweeds.

Boron is an essential mineral, found in trace amounts of food like raisins, prunes, beans, and coffee, and also available commercially as Borax, which helps to detoxify the pineal gland and regulate hormones. Boron also detoxes the body of heavy metals and is great in baths, as well as can be used as a supplement in water.

Magnesium is also really important for a healthy pineal gland. Magnesium increases activity in the pineal gland and melatonin production.

The pineal gland is an important organ for the health of our brain and body, and essential for fertility, sleep, and hormone balancing!

Light Therapy for the Pineal Gland

The most powerful tool I’ve found for supporting pineal gland health is the Alavida phototherapy patches by LifeWave that use light technology to stimulate the pineal gland. Through sleeping with an Alavida patch on, I’ve noticed that I sleep deeper, have more vivid dreams, wake up refreshed earlier in the morning, and my skin feels softer!
